Chapter 3
Independence and multiplication
Why “and” multiplies, when it doesn't, and why multiplying is not the same as adding.
1
“And” is where a column meets a row
Flip a coin, then roll a die. Put both on one square: the coin cuts it into two columns, heads and tails, and the die cuts it at the height 1/6, into “six” and “not six”. Tap the piece where the coin shows heads and the die shows a six.
