Common questions
Playing & ratings
How does my rating work?
Mathalon uses the Glicko-2 system. Solving harder problems and beating higher-rated opponents pushes your rating up the most. A new rating moves in big jumps at first and settles as you play more.
What's the difference between Practice, Play, and Rush?
Practice is solo and untimed — you pick the topics. Play matches you against an opponent near your rating for a ranked head-to-head. Rush is a solo race against the clock.
Your account
Can I change the language?
Yes — open Settings, or the language menu under your name, and pick any of the twelve languages we publish in. Your choice is remembered on this device and follows your account.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete account. This erases your username, email, and password. Past matches and ratings stay on the system anonymously, so other players' histories aren't broken.
Will you email me?
Only account and security messages by default. Newsletters and product updates are opt-in under Settings, and never required.
Problems & feedback
How should I type my answer?
Type the value alone — no units, no words around it. Fractions go as 3/7, powers as x^2, roots as sqrt(2), and pi as pi. A decimal comma and a decimal point are both accepted. If a problem asks for more than one thing, put them in the one box separated by a comma, in the order the question asks for them — for a division asking for the quotient and the remainder, that is “x^2-4x+16, 0”. Writing the parts out in words works too, and so does labelling them.
I think a problem has a wrong answer.
Tell us which one — the page link or its ID is perfect — and what looks off. Reports like this go straight onto our review list.
